Cult Fiction - August 2008

Louis Jordan playing saxophone

This 1944 song was penned by Louis Jordan, and the song would go on to some acclaim, being covered by a host of artists, from jazz to blues.

It's a smooth song, with the infectious line "Is You or Is You Aint My Baby?" and that fantastic, addictive double bass walking its way across the record.

Tom and Jerry uses the song, famously, in "Solid Serenade" and bloggers on the net are loving it.

I love it when cartoon characters play stringed instruments with their feet, because it allows them to be so expressive with their hands!
