Blakes 7 - Project Avalon

February 22nd 2007 02:53
Travis on Blakes 7

This episode kicks off with Travis and a mutoid offsider wandering around some blizzardy cold planet. Travis is kitted out in a nice fur coat... very suave. Anyway, they ambush and capture this chick called Avalon, she's the resistance leader of the natives on the planet and she has been waiting for Blake to arrive and take her to a new base somewhere... thanks to a traitor amongst her own people though Travis is able to get the jump on this arranged meeting. It appears the Federation has a plan...

Cue all sorts of traps and machinations. Servalen (yay!) appears again, and is all two-faced and stuff. We also get to see some new Federation technology put into use... including a very nasty strain of virus that kills it's victims by making their faces go all mossy and burnt. We also get another appearance of Villa's magical red esky of tricks. Good to see the esky is still keeping it real!

This episode was alright, the scenes between Travis and Servalen were the best and some of the visual effects were surprisingly well pulled off. It was cool to see another planet, even if the natives looked just like humans. The Federation seems to be getting quite worked up over Blake's efforts at resistance now so it'll be interesting to see what lengths they go to next time.

Some quotes...

AVON: We've come at the worst time of course. The northern hemisphere is just entering it's winter cycle. They call it 'The Long Cold', something of an understatement, it lasts the equivelant of eight and a half Earth years.

BLAKE: Does it support any intelligent life?
AVON: (Looks around) Does the Liberator?

VILLA: It's cold out here. And I'm very susceptible to low temperatures. I've got a weak chest.
AVON: The rest of you's not very impressive.

VILLA: You need a lot of explosives or a genius to open that.
BLAKE: Can you do it?
VILLA: Of course.
BLAKE: Well just get on with it, I can applaud you later.
