Blakes 7 - Seek-Locate-Destroy

February 5th 2007 11:41

Enter Servalan and Travis!

Another day, another Federation installation to blow up. Blake and co. beam down to a Federation stronghold, armed with another trusty bomb in the shape of a red esky (this time we get to see it's lid clip on in a rather esky-like fashion), and use their explosion to cover up the theft of a Federation decryption device (which will allow them to listen in on Federation communications). All seems to go well until - in all the confusion - Cally gets left behind, and then the bomb goes off...

Meanwhile, the Federation has wised up to Blake's game and is starting to do something about it. We're introduced to Servalan, a Federation Supreme Commander whose task is to have Blake captured or destroyed, or do whatever it takes to stop him being Blake. She enlists the help of Travis, a military commander and grade A psychopath with a personal vendetta against Blake, and so the face off begins.

This was a very exciting episode. It felt like the beginning of the show proper... we're getting to know all the regular characters, and now we have some recurring villains introduced. Jacqueline Pearce is very impressive as Servalan, and Travis is all unchecked murderous glee and venom as the eye-patched half-robot villain with a personal axe to grind against Blake. The recounting of their long-standing enmity is suitably built up, and I can't wait to see the next meeting of these two. It was good to see the Federation side of the story again, something we haven't really seen since the first episode. Good stuff.

Some quotes...

VILLA: I've just invented a new strategy - running away!

BLAKE: Nice going.
VILLA: Any very talented person could've done it.

TRAVIS: Run Blake, run. As far and as fast as you like. I'll find you, you can't hide from me. I am your death Blake.
