Frontline - City of Fear
February 9th 2007 09:22
Episode: 1.3 'City of Fear'
What Happens: Frontline is accused of spin-doctoring random stories after using two unconnected events in the same suburb to suggest a serial killer may be afoot. Mike Moore is paired up with a seriously sick child to improve his popularity.
The Issues/Cliches of Current Affairs television: Mediawatch shreds Frontline's credibility. Ethnic crime as a show-filler. Tragic little kid story ‘that no parent can afford to miss’.
Elliot-watch:
MIKE MOORE: Friday night funnyman Elliot Rhodes there with the 'Johannesburg Tango'.
Celebrities: Stuart Littlemore and Gary Sweet both appear.
Celebrity mentions: Glen Ridge. Alan Jones, Stan Grant. Ray Martin. Derryn Hinch. Mike Willissee. Liz Hayes.
Quotes:
BRIAN: Current affairs is not about facts. Facts are a pain in the arse that get in the way of a good story. Current affairs is about feelings… you feel sorry for the sacked worker, your inspired by the crippled kiddie, you hate the paedophile, and you fear…
EMMA: The serial killer.
BRIAN: (after Mike’s sick kid story rates poorly) There’s only one follow up to a rating like that, it begins with the phrase, “Today I lost a mate…”
BRIAN: (on Mike’s worries about Mediawatch) Self-indulgent crap, run by a pontificating self-righteous little nerd.
MIKE MOORE: He does pontificate.
MIKE MOORE: Yeah, I was just running it past you. I agree. He does pontificate.
