Galaxy Quest

Galaxy Quest (1999)

Galaxy Quest is, without a doubt, a parody of Star Trek and the like. But, despite what one might think, it's quite gentle in it's mocking, and anyone even mildly familiar with Star Trek (particularly the original series) will find it's cleverness and good humour infectious.

The story concerns the has-been actors of a now-cancelled science-fiction show, the eponymous 'Galaxy Quest', who find themselves pulled away from their nerdy fans and into a real-life alien war. I don't really want to give away any of the jokes, but the characters are a scream (particularly Alan Rickman as the jobless classical actor forever typecast as the proud alien warrior, and Tony Shalhoub as the near-comatose engineer who seems to be unaware of all the strangeness around him).

Check it out if you haven't already done so, even if you aren't a Star Trek fan or anything like that, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

HIGHLIGHTS: Tim Allen's character must do battle with a 'pig-dog', or so he thinks...

TRIVIA: This is most likely the only good movie Tim Allen will ever make.

I love the aliens in galaxy quest... the clapping and the weird talking...

My dad would disaggree that it is Tim Allens best - he watches the Santa Claus 1 & 2 about 3 -4 times a year - not just at christmas. It drives mum up the wall as everytime he watches it, a listener would believe that he had never seen it before "oh no! whats going to happen next!" come the cries of joy from in front of the TV...

Oh yeah, I saw the poster for it at the movies - just at a glance - told dad about it and he erupted with millions of questions! Is it Tim Allen again? Who else is in it? Oh I wonder what he is going to get up to this time! Then went into his own little world and giggled like a schoolgirl...

Im a Trekkie and Galaxy Quest works a treat.
Sam Rockwell and Tony Shaloub steal the show. Alan Rickman is always deliciously amusing.

Fans of this will love Free Enterprise I highly recommend picking it up from the US.
Essentially its Galaxy Quest cross pollonated with Swingers. William Shatner raps Shakespeares Julius Ceasar amonst other attractions.

I've heard about that, definitely sounds interesting.

While we're on the subject, I really, really love the documentry 'Trekkies', so funny.
