Nurse Betty

I picked this up expecting a quirky small-town drama in the vein of 'Happy, Texas'... that is to say, I didn't expect much. However, Renee Zellweger is so gorgeous she could make an advertisement for life insurance worth watching, so I watched with avid interest.
It starts off low-key, much in the style I expected it to be - mostly drama, slightly offbeat and with a few moments of blackness. But soon I found that the characters were pulling me along; Zellweger is highly engaging as the delusional and enchanting 'Nurse' Betty, and Morgan Freeman and Chris Rock have some of the funniest dialogue I've heard in a while as a pair of travelling hitmen.
What makes this film so different is the direction it goes in; Betty's delusions lead her into events she couldn't possibly otherwise enter, and the moment that she finally gets her meeting with her beloved Dr. David Revell is an amazing turning point within the film. I hate to take this review too far, but it's kind of breathtaking... a force that pulled me into the film, snapped my previously languishing attention back into place. And then something else happened - the subplot concerning the two hitmen did an about-face as well, and the film suddenly became a whole lot clearer.
It's hard to explain how this film got me without spoiling anything. It was uplifting, but not in the way that films usually try to do it (IE. With all sorts of well-executed cliches). This film lulled me into a false sense of security in that I thought it was an inconsequential film, but then it revealed an inner beauty that explained itself to me. Go rent it out.
HIGHLIGHTS: Crispin Glover (George McFly from 'Back to the Future') is, as usual, great in what is otherwise a small role. Watching Greg Kinnear's first scene with Renee Zellweger is like coming out of a horrendous car crash without a scratch on you.

celebrity obsessed west and the soapy addicted Oprah lovin Bubble people, that read trash mags and watch Neighbours religiously.
Renee Zelweiger is almost watchable in this and Aaron Eckhart is great as the cad boyfriend. Greg Kinnear is well cast and Chris Rock is actually funny from time to time. Morgan Freeman plays Morgan Freeman to a tee.
The script is well thought out and the characters are all individuals. Well worth a look.
I do think its the weakest of Director Neil La Bute's films. I much prefer In the Company of Men starring the all mighty Aaron Eckhart and Your Friends and Neighbours with Catherine Keener and Jason Patric

The movie Shows that being an ass hole is sometimes more damaging and violent than rape or murder.
People like Eckharts character should be in prison, instead they usually become corporate heads of Business.
I just cant take my eyes off it and get pulled into it every viewing.
