Star Trek: Nemesis

September 11th 2006 09:33
Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)

I'm not exactly a huge Star Trek fan, but I don't pretend that I never watch it. I've seen quite a fair bit actually, and have enjoyed it for the most part. This movie however... eh.

It's fair to say that the crux of this movie is the 'nemesis' of the title; Shinzon. Let's just say he isn't much chop. There have been worst villains in Star Trek before, but there's also been much better. Having said that, if the 'villain' is the main focus of the plot and he isn’t really up to that kind of onscreen attention, well you can guess from here that this isn't the greatest Trek movie ever made. In fact, I'd say it was one of the worst, which is a shame if this is to be the last one. Sure, the visuals are great, but the dialogue and characters are poor, and the plot is all a bit too silly for my liking. And the actors are getting a bit too old. Especially Data, who’s pretty chubby for a robot.

It's not hugely shit, but it aint by any stretch what I would call 'spectacular'.

HIGHLIGHTS: There's some cool ship battles towards the end

Hi Luke, totally agree Nemisis is a very average a Trek film, not as bad as Insureection but not worth it for non die hards.

Ok its confession time,
My girlfriend and I are both Trek fans. Love the food for thought it provides could do with less of the soapy in space angle, but it doesnt ruin it for me.

I thought Star Trek: Insurection got lost about half way through and would have been much punchier as an hour episode rather than feature film.

The concept was good but the exexution was plodding without providing any further fodder for the brain.

Its the ideas more than the action that usually draw me to Star Trek. Ironically, the more action packed Wrath of Khan and First Contact are my two favourites. Sometimes I dont understnd myself, at least both overflow with good ideas.

I just love the 'bad' guys in Insurrection. F. Murray Abraham rules.
