Super Troopers
August 29th 2006 08:54
A refreshingly funny and original comedy. What else do you need to know?
The 'super troopers' of the title are a group of enthusiastic and easily excited highway patrolmen battling nearby local cops over area-duristriction. When they're not going head to head with their competition they're looking for a good time, often at the expense of civillians.
The actor/writers (all five of them, comprising a group called 'Broken Lizard) are perfect. Each member of 'Broken Lizard' crafts their respective character in equal shades of amusing, quirky and endearing. The supporting cast - as much so (especially Brian Cox, who is a complete and utter pisser as Captain O'Hagan). The style of comedy isn't really like anything else I've seen - it's hard to explain, it's funny along the lines of hanging out with your mates and having a laugh.
There isn't really much else to say. It fulfills the requirements of a comedy more than adequately, and would have to go down as the funniest film I've seen in the last five years. The character of Farva is a deadset classic. It's a shame that the follow up 'Club Dread' was so bad and that their new film 'Beerfest' has copped such a panning by the critics.
HIGHLIGHTS: The whole movie.
TRIVIA: Broken Lizard previously made a film in 1996 called 'Puddle Cruiser', an indie comedy about university relationships.
Real maple syrup was used in the chugging competition scene.
