Hogfather movie

January 1st 2007 00:37

Hogfather trailer - click to watch.

It's entirely unlikely that this new made-for-television adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novel 'Hogfather' will be coming to Australian television anytime soon (if at all). Nay, it's more likely it'll just show up on DVD here sometime in the next six months. I could be wrong though, stranger things have happened, so don't hyperventilate too much!

Anyway, the above trailer is a teaser for the TV special. It's a two part mini-series that ran over Christmas in the UK just recently, and it looks pretty swish. I think it might just be the first time a Terry Pratchett novel has ever been adapted for the screen as live-action. Exciting stuff for the fans!

For Your Consideration trailer

For Your Consideration trailer - click!

Christopher Guest and co. turn their free-wheeling satirical talents towards Hollywood and the Oscar-baiting machine. 'For Your Consideration' are the words used by the studios when putting forward who or what they hope will be nominated for an Oscar by the Academy, and judging from the above trailer, this film is going to dance all over the whole process and hoopla that has become every bit as much a part of Hollywood as cinema itself.

Guest has carved a niche for himself and his regulars with their inspirational brand of ad-libbed mockumentary. More than satire, the subjects he chooses for his films become vehicles for the actors to pin their jokes and performances on. The humour is more about characterisation than providing biting commentary on serious subjects, hence their previous films being dedicated to less hard-hitting industries of competition... IE. Dog shows, amateur theatre and folk music. The style has been very successful for Guest's ensemble, even to the point that it's starting to become a genre (EG. The recent wedding mockumentary 'Confetti'), and they're the sort of films that get funnier the more times you watch them.

'For Your Consideration' promises to continue the solid quality of these films. Hollywood films about Hollywood are often never short of entertaining, and Ricky Gervais - who is no stranger to ad-libbed comedy - joins the team here too, which should provide some awkward laughs.

Looking forward to this one.

New Trailer - The Prestige

The Prestige trailer - click to watch.

So where the hell did this movie come from? I was at the movies the other day and I saw this trailer and I didn't even know this film was being made... I must be slipping!

Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, Memento, Insomnia) directs, and re-enlists his Batman pals Christian Bale and Michael Caine, and fills out the rest of the cast with a vast array of impressive talent - Scarlett Johansson, Hugh Jackman, David Bowie and Andy Serkis.

Angier (Jackman) and Borden (Bale) are rival magicians and friends. The rivalry turns bitter however, and Borden pulls off the greatest magic trick ever seen. Angier becomes obsessed with finding out how it was done. But what if Borden's magic trick isn't a trick?

Watch the trailer, it looks really good. Bale has a great pommy accent that covers up his normally extremely annoying vocal tones! Caine is always good value too, and it'll be cool to see Jackman and Bale facing off, and who doesn't love David Bowie?

Anyway, it looks rad.

Clerks 2
Click to watch trailer

I can't say I'm filled with anticipation with the idea of a sequel to Clerks. Clerks may still be Kevin Smith's best film, and I fear that a sequel could suck out the director's last remaining shreds of credibility
